Well this week I improved my house design so it is now able to be printed without the inside being filled in. This is because of the 5 pillars I added into the center of the building. Yet for some reason the roof right above the mini porch didn't print. After that I started working on my keychain and I managed to get that down very quickly. Next I'll work on my other keychain once I get the chance.

Started the week off by finishing up my lamp design with adding the last art element on the final face which is just a horizontal version of what I did last. Then I finalize the design by making it ready to print and getting rid of space in between the faces. Next on the latter half of this this week I worked on my 3-D house design. Initial thoughts is I wish I could just use CAD. I took inspiration from trailer homes for my design, made a rectangular house and the roof is going to be slanted. It's simple but to me that is good.
My design which I thought at first was going to be almost flawless had some flaws. This is mostly caused by the scaling up of the smaller prototype because of the width and height added on by the interlocking pieces. This was fixed by just remaking the design but just at a larger scale. After this I took a mini break to work on my own design for a personal project of sorts. It was just a simple heart shaped design with a engraving on it and a stand to go along with it. I just put it together with wood glue and it can stand up on its own and doesn't fall over. After I finished that I started working on the projection holes in my lamp where I abandoned by original idea to go after a slightly more abstract one which to me was the right decision. Next week I will not be working due to going on a Alternate February break.
This week has been great for my design. I have finally perfected my pyramids locking pieces and they are almost perfect. With this finished up and can now move on to the art design of the lamp. I'm thinking of just doing a standard 4 elemental design(Air, Earth, Water, Fire) on each side of the lamp. This is just a concept that I can brainstorm for a bit and work on it on Monday.
Well this week to me wasn't the most productive. The first 3 days I worked on my design by first recreating it. second I printed it out and the connectors were to big for each other by less than a millimeter it seemed. Second I edited my design so it will hopefully fit. The second 2 days were not productive whatsoever with me and other not being able to print. This prevented me from having any insight on how good my prototype was. If i'm able to get my prototype finalized in the first 2 days I can have my artistic design implamented by the end of next week.
Creative Thinking in my mind is not specific thinking. Thinking of multiple and not one possibility. I’ve used creative thinking to work on many of my projects including this most recent one. In the beginning in my mind I thought up many ways to structure the entire video or at least some parts of it until I finally came to the conclusion of what the finished video is. Another was the lamp project, during that time I juggled with many 3D shapes until i decided on the pyramid. Even then the ways I would connect it was creative with all the different ways you could do it.
This year I have focused on broadening my horizons or my thinking. This is because in just a year and a half now I have to decide what I'm going to do for the most part in my life. The main puzzle being what job will be something I won't dread doing, pay well, and still be demand after I finish college. I still need to develop this skill further but also have to work on my self motivation. I lack it a lot sometimes, that ability to go the extra mile and be able to do something that I know I can do but just don’t. A test that I got a B+ on but could have easily just studied for and get an A on it and other things like that for example. To fix that I have to work on self discipline. But to fix that will be the hardest of all. I’ll need some time to find out how to fix that aspect of my life. My midterm project was designed with the thought of one idea then it was fleshed out. I first thought of ideas to start storyboarding. After that me and Kyle started filling in the storyboard with our own ideas and changing each others on them on the way. Once we got the finished storyboard Kyle wrote the script. Then we started filming after that with Kyle as the main star and me the filmer. Once we got all our footage I edited the entire thing together(Including Bloopers). I like to see the design thinking process asway more fluid. This is because design in my eyes can start at almost any phase of it. You can first start with an idea, you could find a flaw in an everyday tool, or even just want to fix a minor inconvenience. To me you can start anywhere, and go anywhere, any place in the design cycle. While designing the video I jumped everywhere and tried to think broader on most things that I thought of. The main reason I created the project the way it is, is simple, to have fun. To me I wanted to make something funny both in making it and for others when they watch it. I took inspiration from many different artists including Brandon Rogers, Gus Johnson, and people who made edited infomercials. I used almost no transitionsons on purpose because I learned from people like them that It makes the video feel quicker and gives it a more unique feel. To me the process was relatively calm because I passed both myself and Kyle well and I can’t remember anything that was too difficult except Kyle forgetting his lines. When I look back, I don’t know if I really developed any new skills but instead just sharpened the ones I already have or the ones im still developing. Skills of designing, video filming & editing just to name the basic ones. If I had to redo this I would mainly just add more scenes and get a more “realistic” main scene. With this it would add more and not take away any of the feeling thevideo gives off. This first half of the year has gone quick but that's not a surprise. If anything this class has made me think more about my future than anything else and that's a good thing. Other than that It has helped me develop much needed skills that can be used now and in the future. If anything, thank you for this class Ryemold. Well I hate editing and shooting videos but I have to do this project so I have to do it. I have to make a advertisement for ILab and I gotta say well I'll most likely have a idea and just do it and edit it myself. I already have the skills and basic film knowledge so it should be a piece of cake.

So far prototyping the lamp has been going good so far. I cut out all my pieces painstakingly and when I put it all together the rivets didn't fit because I messed up the measuring. Yet even with those not fitting fully it stood up and solid because of the pyramid design. So now Im working in illustrator putting together my design that I made on paper & cardboard. Hope It works out.
Last week I started thinking about what shape I should make my lamp for the new project. I wanted to do something that wasn't mostly rectangles but I didn't want something really hard to pull off so I decided on a square pyramid. With this shape I have to use trig for once in my life to see the altitude of the triangle faces of it to find out how tall I have to make them. With this I also decided how to divide up the divots on the sides to make the whole thing connect together. Now its time to actually create a real model of it.
So far in my progress of making pins I think i've been successful in what I have wanted to do. My Main pin is a logo for NPK, a group of friends that im in and that I think everyone would enjoy. From the beginning I wanted to make a design that incorporated multiple layers of depth through the design. So far I managed to succeed in doing that partially where there is a noticeable difference but nothing major in depth. To fix that problem I made an example design that when printed will show multiple powers and the depths that come with them. With that in mind once I get it printed I will resume working on my main design.
